"First Union 400"

32 cars were entered in the 1988 First Union 400 race and pole-sitter, Terry Labonte (117.322 mph) won his second consecutive race at NWS by finishing 1.51 seconds ahead of Ricky Rudd. Dale Earnhardt led the most laps and finished 3rd ahead of Rusty Wallace and Kyle Petty. The top 5 finishers were the only cars on the lead lap. There were five cautions for a total of 20 laps. Five drivers exchanged the lead a total of 12 times. 

The race would also be the final NWS appearance of 3 well-known drivers--Benny Parsons (17th place finish), Bobby Allison (20th) and Buddy Baker (31st).
