"First Union 400"





April 17 would prove to be a good day for Terry Labonte once again. Labonte started 10th in the 1994 First Union 400 and took the checkered flag for a 3rd time in his career at NWS. Rusty Wallace finished second, 4 seconds behind. Ernie Irvin started on the pole (119.016 mph) and finished third. His 320 laps led were tops for the race. Kyle Petty finished 4th and Dale Earnhardt was 5th. Six cars finished on the lead lap. Six cars were involved in 8 lead changes. Six cautions flew for a total of 35 laps. And while we’re on the subject of “6’s”, the #6 car driven by Mark Martin finished……..13th. Greg Sacks started 6th and finished 34th in the 36 car field.
Chuck Bown, the 1990 Busch Series Champion made his second and final appearance at NWS and finished 35th after having engine problems. Rookies Jeremy Mayfield (30th), John Andretti (31st) and Jeff Burton (33rd) would each make their first appearance at NWS.
